day of caring

Day of Caring is designed to bring our communities together to make a meaningful impact throughout the region. Local companies, organizations, groups, and individual volunteers are paired with nonprofit agencies and community organizations to complete much-needed service projects. Not only do these organizations receive valuable support, but volunteers often tell us how rewarding the experience is and many return year after year to participate.

This year marks the 32nd Annual Day of Caring! Building on the success of last year, the United Way of Lackawanna, Wayne & Pike will once again host two separate Day of Caring events—one serving Lackawanna County and another serving Wayne and Pike Counties. The dates for this year are Thursday, September 3rd (Lackawanna) and Wednesday, September 23rd (Wayne and Pike).

Other Ways to Get Involved

Each year, we rely on hundreds of volunteers to assist with fund-raising and community impact fund decision making. Fundraising volunteers assist during the annual campaign while Community Impact Fund Distribution volunteers serve on committees to make sure those donated dollars are well spent in the community.

In addition, a number of other special committees meet throughout the year to plan such events as the Mike Munchak Charity Golf Classic, and more.

The cornerstone of our volunteer efforts is the annual Day of Caring which mobilizes hundreds of people throughout Lackawanna, Wayne and Pike Counties to work first-hand with the United Way and our network of partner agencies to make a difference! The annual Youth Day of Caring mobilizes area students in grades 7-12 in much the same way and will be returning this upcoming year, Spring 2025.
